EMMA — Westview wasn’t quite ready for its season to be over in a first-round sectional matchup at home.
The Warriors gutted out an exciting 63-56 win over LaVille in a game that featured a slew of lead changes, a bunch of and-ones, dynamic offensive play, physical defense and, of course, a closeout by the Warriors’ leader, Brant Yoder.
It was Yoder who hit a leaner in the lane late in the fourth to extend the Warriors’ lead, then broke the LaVille press on Westview’s next possession, which led to an easy layup for Nick Raber. That was enough for the Warriors to stave off an impressive LaVille team which had visions of sectional titles dancing in their heads through much of the second half.
Yoder, as he so often does, led Westview in scoring with 17 points, tied with Raber, who was 7 of 8 from the floor.
