ANGOLA — A new Angola High School choir is polishing its vocal chords for this weekend’s Indiana State School Music Association jazz festival at Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne. Vocal Infinity — which started at the end of last school year with auditions by choir teacher Sarah Farver-Staub — is the only singing group performing at Saturday’s district competition. The rest of the entries are instrumental. “This is new for the school,” said Farver-Staub. Very few schools in the area have a jazz choir. Angola High School’s is an extracurricular group that practices on Monday nights and performs at community events. “I sang ‘God Bless America’ … while the Fall Fest was going on in Angola,” said Vocal Infinity member Brianna Shuler, a freshman. The repertoire, which encompasses around a dozen pieces, is varied and includes everything from the Beatles to Etta James.
