Eggs and Easter go hand in hand so it’s not surprising that when Fred Kreigh gave the children’s sermon last spring he used eggs and baby chicks to illustrate the Easter miracle. It’s also not surprising that when Fred told the children they could take the chicks home, the parents politely said, “NO WAY!” What does a contractor do with baby chicks? He builds them a chicken castle, featuring a deluxe model door left over from some other project. The showcase quickly took shape in the Kreighs’ backyard on 1000E, outside of Kendallville’s city limits. Coupling his biology degree from Purdue with his innate curiosity Fred became an expert in the care and feeding of chickens.
