KENDALLVILLE — Diana Schowe has been a fixture at the KPC Triathlon. “I’m part of the Women of Steel and this has became our hometown race, there’s no better,” Schowe explained after winning the female portion of Saturday’s event. The Auburn athlete has been part of all three KPC Triathlons. She was second in the inaugural event and has won the event the last two years. The grueling event has three stages, beginning with the swim. “The water is the toughest part for me,” Schowe said. “But I took two minutes off my time from last year. The bike portion, it was blistering fast. I was first off the bike.” Schowe was out of the water after the swimming portion, which is the first leg, in 11:22. The bike portion winds around Bixler Lake and into Kendallville, then back again. Her time was 32:17 in that segment and 23:06 in the final cross country run segment. “There’s so much to it, you have to be consistent and it will come together,” Schowe said. Michael Henry completed the event in 1:02.49 to take top honors in the male portion of the event. He finished fourth a year ago in his first KPC Triathlon.
